Bishop's Stortford Ultra Light Railway

Welcome to the web site for the BSULR project, designed to bring traffic relief and long lasting development options for the largest town in East Hertfordshire.

The idea for the project came when I was trying to think of a way to get people from the outlying housing estates to the town centre, whether they need to get there for work, for school, for shopping, or just for a night out. The more the idea developed, the more solutions it appeared to offer.

I hope you will agree that this project deserves to be studied in closer detail. I am pleased that our community leaders are lending their support -

"This project is an original approach to a long standing problem. It deserves the chance to be progressed, so we can all see how it might work in practice." Mark Prisk MP, Shadow Minister for Business, MP for Hertford & Stortford.

"When I first heard of the ULR project it immediately reminded me of the radical foresight and faith in Bishop's Stortford that previous generations had shown in promoting the Stort Navigation which brought our Town a period of notable prosperity; later further enhanced by those pioneering and indomitable spirits that brought rail to the town. ULR is a visionary concept and I have been pleased to lend my support in bringing it to a wider audience in the hope that we may fully explore what benefits a thorough examination of its feasibility could bring to Stortford". Councillor Colin Woodward, former Mayor, Bishop's Stortford.

What you are seeing here is the very first public outing for the project, which is why this is a deliberately very low tech web site. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions. My email address can be found on the 'What happens next? page.
